Welcome to the Calgary Sensor Lab!

The Calgary Sensor Lab is directed by Professor Zahra Abbasi, at the Department of Electrical and Software Engineering (ESE), the University of Calgary.

Meet the team

Calgary Sensor Lab

My research group (Calgary Sensors Lab) studies smart sensor development for real-time detection, intelligent robust monitoring, and selective sensing. We seek to advance the use of applied electromagnetics (EM), circuitry development, system integration, and data analysis to develop portable, easy-to-use technologies to facilitate real-time data collection and provide reliable measurement information. Inherent to reliable measurement is the ability to perform in a harsh environment (i.e. high temperature and pressure), the capability of detection and monitoring in an out-of-access environment, and distinction of different components during detection and monitoring. These components for reliable measurement require the highly sensitive and selective sensing devices with the potential of distant and wireless detection.
